Thanks very much for the kind words and calling me a legend. Makes me feel old, but proud!

One clarification. I am not an elected official; I do serve as an appointee to a commission that reports to the county board.(It is the Emergency Preparedness Advisory Commission in Arlington County, VA.)

On the one hand, as a researcher, I understand resilience intellectually and want to help to achieve it in the U.S. On the other hand, as a local government commission member, I now face the practical challenge of determining if our county is indeed likely to be resilience in the event of a major disaster and how exactly to measure our capacity and readiness.

I maintain a blog on the topic of long term recovery from disasters, with the intent of finding and sharing useful information -- via this new medium -- to others concerned with recovery. See: http://recoverydiva.com

Thanks again.

This is my third visit to this blog. We are starting a new initiative in the same niche as this blog. Your blog provided us with important information to work with. You have done a fantastic job. If we think we observed and learned our lessons correctly, why is it that we are always still constantly assailed with all kinds of little doubts - the same ones as always - like should I really rinse out all the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher, or surely 3 scoops won't do for this load like the soap guide says - should I add in an extra measure?

Thanks for shedding light on the plight of SMBs in the aftermath of a disaster. They form the backbone of our communities and yet most do not have access to credit beyond the SBA. You rightly point out the challenge they face. Here in Nashville over 2000 businesses were affected by the historic flooding. With the Chamber doing an inventory of their needs and the damage, it will be interesting to see the stats on how many list access to credit as a major challenge in their long term recovery.

Thanks for this interesting view of community resilience; as an unfolding story which improves each time we find new ways to engage more people in preparing to protect themselves. This si an encouragement to those of us trying to BRIC's (Build Resilient and Independant Communities)
